MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

Tell me about your family (married, kids, pets)
I am happily married to the love of my life. We have been married since high school (32 years). I have 3 children (sons) and 10.3 grandchildren. They bring lots of love and drama to my life.

Where did you grow up and where do live now?
I grew up in Gainesville, FL and now live outside Tallahassee, FL in a small town called Crawfordville. We love small town life and have been here 24 years.

How long have you been blogging and what made you decide to do it?
I have had a blog for 7 months, but have not yet gotten the blogging habit ingrained. I am working on it. My problem is that I dont like to blog without pictures, but I forget to take the pictures. It is a habit I am trying to develop, I saw a friend who had made a coffee table book out of her blogs for the past few years and I thought it was such a great way to chronicle your thoughts and life to look back on it. I would like to have my blogs to look back on later and share with my friends and family, and also to share my quilting addiction with other quilters.

What is your crafty talent? When did you start doing your craft?
I am a quilter. My husband says I give them all away, so I am working on several that will stay at home. I work full time so I don't have as much time to sew as I would like. I have been known to be late for work because I got caught up working on a quilt. So I grab odd moments to quilt.

Tell us a little about your weight changes and why you joined the WWI group.
I have lost 19lbs, I am trying to lose a total of 100lb, but I try not to think about that number much. Actually I try not to think about the numbers at all, but about putting good food in my mouth and moving everyday. But like everyone struggling with their weight, sometimes you can get a little obsessive about the numbers.

Tell us your favorite, daily blog reads.
I love to read blogs and do most of mine through googlereader. I love "The Peacock Fairy" She is a jewelry maker. But my maiden name is Peacock so I love all things peacock. I also love the "Quilter Blogs" It grabs lots of quilters who blog. I have about 200 blogs per day in my reader and manage to get through most of them. That's how I wind down from my day.

Tell us anything else you would like to share!
I am going on vacation to the mountains next week and should have wonderful pictures to share, so check out my blog.

RIP Lucky!

RIP Lucky
1997 - 2010

Lucky was a puppy given to us by one of my relatives who found him at the local high school.   That was 13 years ago.  When I was separated from my husband in 2001, he took Lucky to live with him at his home.  Lucky has continued to be the boy's dog at their daddy's house.  Jimmy drove 4 hours home from college, picked up Paul at his college and then came home to join Matthew to say their goodbyes.  Lucky died 30 minutes after they all arrived.  Very sad, he was waiting for them.

Working Sat - Wednesday night so in between sleeping and working I will be working on some hand quilting.  I just love to hand quilt.  It is very relaxing.  I started to machine quilt this one and took out the stitching deciding I would like to do it by had.

Mom sick again!

Suzanne, my mom, is sick again.  She has COPD and once again she has pneumonia.  She gets pneumonia about 3 times a winter.  This is the earliest in the season that she has been sick.  She is in good spirits.   I  brought her books from the library and charm packs to work on some yoyos for me.  I will be making another yoyo quilt, this one for me.

Here she is making my yoyos.

Me and mom.  Can you tell they just gave her some pain medication?  She is starting to get sleepy.  Time for me to leave!  Hope all is well with everyone.  Thank for your visits and hope everyone has a great weekend.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
Bunny Wood

Tell me about your family (married, kids, pets)I am married to my DH for 49 years come November. We have four grown children ages 48, 44, 43 and 30 (the youngest still at home) and 7 grandchildren. They are the light of our lives all teenagers now and all doing their own thing. We do get to see some of them and it is always fun to take them shopping for new outfits. One of our grandsons is very involved in hockey and it sure is a family thing going to all the games. However, it is not my thing to see them almost kill each other on the ice so I stay home and have some quiet time to myself. No family pets we lost our Pepper 5 years ago and do not want to go through that again.

Where did you grow up and where do live now?
I grew up in Montreal, that is where we got married and in 1967 we moved to New York.  My husband was transferred with a bank, we lived there in New York for almost 15 years and I loved it.  It is a wonderful exciting city to be in. Although we lived on Staten Island in a great neighbourhood. Our children 3 of them went to school there, and two of our children were born there. They have duel citizenship. My husband had the opportunity to work in Toronto and his Mom was getting on in years so we decided to come back to Canada. I found it so difficult for the first few years, it was not like Montreal and so very different than New York. I found it stuffy and difficult to make friends. Our youngest was only 8 months old and having three teenagers it was a challenge finding my way around and two of them in different schools etc. I still miss New York but after 30 years here I have met some wonderful friends.

How long have you been blogging and what made you decide to do it?
I have been blogging since 2008, a friend had a blog and she kept asking me to get one so one day I decided to try it and it was fun. She had been asking me to join facebook but I did make an account but do not like reading all that dumb stuff that people write about such a waste of time (only my opinion).  I know millions love it so maybe there is something wrong with me. I love to see the crafts that bloggers do and also I love looking at all the Shabby Shick blogs. I follow more blogs than I can keep up with. I try to post on most but quite frankly I never have that much to say.
What is your crafty talent? When did you start doing your craft?
I love to sew, I also knit, and crochet. I also love playing with photography and Photo Shop.  I started knitting when I was 5, I learned in boarding school. I remember making pot holders and the first one I made was dark green. Funny the things you remember. I started to sew when I was first married after my first child was born. I was so borded so asked my Mom for her sewing machine. She used to make our clothes. The first thing I made was a red dress. I wanted it for Christmas so I bought a pattern and some red wool and some lining. I got it made but remember putting the left sleeve in the right armhole and had to take it out. I have never done that again. I made all my girls their dresses and wedding dresses. When I retired from work in 1998 I bought a new sewing machine it was the latest Husqvarna/Viking Designer 1 embroidery sewing machine. Wow, I joined yahoo lists and met so many online friends. I met a wonderful friend and she was a quilter she lived not far from me and she taught me to quilt and I have not stopped since.

Bunny's Latte Quilt

I won a ribbon for my Latte Quilt it was all done with machine embroidery. I also taught sewing and embroidery classes at my dealers.  I enjoyed that so much always fun to see the students create.  My latest quilt I am doing now is a Double Wedding ring with applique (I always hated applique) I am enjoying the process although it is very time consuming. It is almost finished.  I love the process of starting and creating a new quilt. I have several quilt that have to be quilted yet. I do at times get a long armed quilter to quilt some of my quilts they do a wonderful job. Whew I am long winded and probably lost your interest by now.

Tell us a little about your weight changes and why you joined the WWI group.
My weight has been a life time albatrose I have had issues all my life. Years ago I went to Elaine Power and did the calories don't count thing.  Then gained the 67 pounds back then WW and once again all back.  I even tried Nutrisystem, not sure it is the same now as it was then. I lost all the weight with WW in 2002 and decided that this time I was not going to gain it back. So when I get to the 10-12 pound mark, I get it off.  I have about 6 pounds I want to get off it is a few less than I need to but that is my goal hopefully I can managed that. It is so nice to belong to Steph's blog to encourage all of us to keep on track.  Life is like a roll of toilet tissue the closer to the end the faster it rolls. In other words we all want to be healthy.

Tell us your favorite, daily blog reads.
I had a favorite blog it was one of my sweetest friends, the gal who taught me to quilt. I lost her in June and miss seeing her and having her inspire me. I just love to pop from one blog to another. Everyone in blogland is fun.

Lip balm holders

Lip balm or flash drive holders

These adorable lip balm holders were fun to make.  I simply used jelly rolls.  I thought the girls at work (the nurses) would want to buy one.

I am headed to work this morning for a 12 hr day shift for Over time.  Then it's back to my usual shifts of weekend nights.  I won't have off again until Wednesday night.  Enjoy the week everyone.  Be safe.

Kevin's driving experience

Kevin in a dragster

Back in May, one of the gifts I gave to my husband for his 50th birthday was a driving experience at Doug Foley's Driving School.  We had to book it for October and Monday we went to Maple Grove PA for his driving experience.  It was awesome!  He loved it.

Me with my Kevin

Me in Kevin's shorts....

Long story but essentially he was supposed to wear jeans but instead wore his shorts.  We went to the ladies room and he changed into my jeans and I put on his shorts.  We were 2.5 hrs away from home without a change of clothes.  I had to let him use his belt to hold my jeans on since they were way too small for him to zip up.  Therefore, no belt for me.  I had to walk around holding my pants up!  It was interesting, trying to take pics and video one handed.  What we do for love!!!

Video of Kevin's last run
He reached 122.43 miles in only 10.58 seconds
with a reaction time of 0.76 seconds!

Snowball Quilt top done

Snowball quilt top done, ready to quilt

This quilt was started in April at the Paducah AQS quilt show in my class with Kaffe Fassett!

Now, it just needs quilting and binding!  I had procrastinated getting this done because I was waiting for Kevin to build my design wall and he did!

He autographed my book!

Taking Kevin to Maple Grove PA for his 50th birthday present, a day with the Doug Foley Driving School.  He will be driving a dragster and I will watching and taking pictures!  He can't wait!

Raw edge qulting ~ in progress

Raw edge quilting

Brenda from Scraps and Strips is the first person I saw doing this type of quilting.  She calls it strip piecing. Some call it postage stamp quilting.  I call it raw edge quilting.  It is really fun and lends itself to being creative.  It is fun picking out what to put where.  Karen's version of this quilt is more like mine.

In this project, I designed four 11.5 inch squares, one at a time and the boder by itself and then pieced them all together.  Below are grids to show you how I did the squares.  It was easier to do it in sections so I could keep it straight.

4 squares and 4 border pieces

I used linen as the base in this quilt.  I glued the small squares down to the linen and then sewed them into place on the linen.  I did zig zag instead of straight stithcing, just because I like the rough sewing feel to the layering.  Some of the squares were doubled, like a picture frame.  Brenda and Karen sew the design elements directly to the batting and backing but I want to do more embellishing on the top so mine is not quilted yet. Next step for me is to make the quilt sandwich and then quilt it and add the border.  I should be done soon.  Here are some close up pics of my work so far:

I just love this. Let me know what you think!

Meanwhile, I have to work only 3 times in the next 10 days.  I plan to doing some sewing!  I will be here so stop by and say "HI".  Here is a picture of Sarah who came home from Peace College in Raleigh NC for Fall break.  She brought home her friend Jackie from New Jersey.  They go back on Sunday.  Here they are at dinner last night.
